Cambridge United Supporters' Panel

1st April 2020

Cambridge United and Covid-19

We were pleased to meet with Ian Mather, Godric Smith and Dave Matthews-Jones this evening to discuss how the Covid-19 pandemic is affecting the Football Club, along with the plans for the immediate future.

There is no doubt that the Club is facing significant challenges in all areas, but that the outlook is positive if we all pull together. Of particular note was that the Club’s landlords, Grosvenor, have approached the Club with an offer to waive the next quarter’s rent, which has been gratefully accepted.

This saving of around £25,000 will make a significant difference to the Club’s cashflow in the coming months. Separately, Ian and Godric both stressed that the best way that fans can support the Club in the short term is to buy their season tickets for next season in the two-week early-bird window which opens at 9am on Thursday 2 April, but only if they genuinely can afford to do so. The Club recognises that the current situation is placing pressure on everyone’s finances, but any fan buying their season ticket now will make a massive difference.

Ian and Godric also underlined Paul Barry’s continuing support and commitment to the Club during this period and into the future.

Finally, it was agreed to meet every fortnight given the unprecedented situation we are all facing.
